A Jacuzzi is the generic trade name a whirlpool bath fitted with water jets and electric pump are commonly given. Invented by a member of the Jacuzzi family in the late 60s. Today the name Jacuzzi is synonymous with all whirlpool baths, much like many vacuum cleaners are referred to as Hoovers, which is the name of a manufacture and not a machine. Originally these whirlpool baths were used to relax muscles, they had a medicinal purposes rather than relaxation.

The Jacuzzi family originated in Italy and then moved to California at the beginning of the last century. They were originally involved in the early aeronautic industry and they made advancements in agricultural pumps. In 1956 they built a portable hydrotherapy pump because a family member had problems with their joints and one of the brothers thought that pumped aerated water would be soothing. However this was only the forerunner of the idea of a portable hydrotherapy bath.

Health spars had become popular in the mid-20th century with many health resorts in Britain and Germany founded to house water baths. However few people would have envisaged a health spa within their own home even with the use of the J300 portable pump that was used for the first Jacuzzi. This pump became a profitable sideline for the Jacuzzi Company as it could be used by schools, nurseries and hospitals.

Roy Jacuzzi is credited to be the inventor of the world's first whirlpool bath in 1968 which he christened the Roman. Its popularity was quite slow to start with and Roy single-handedly introduced the idea of a relaxing bath into one home at a time. Today the brand name is imprinted on everyone's mind it has become the standard in whirlpool baths.

If you are considering installing a whirlpool bath in your home there are advantages and disadvantages. First of all they circulate warm water around the bath which is supposed to help to reduce stress and relax muscles. Although there are physical benefits to using a whirlpool. Modern research has indicated that they are effective in reducing the pain of arthritis, they also relax you mentally.

Most people who've tried them report them to be a luxurious method of unwinding at the end of the day. The relaxation of the muscles makes you feel sleepier and you are more inclined to fall into a deep relaxing sleep without use of drugs or alcohol. In fact the name Jacuzzi is synonymous with luxury and the sense of being pampered. They have become popular because of their social aspects most whirlpool baths fit three or more people. This can be a disadvantage as well because your friends may keep inviting themselves round to use your whirlpool tub. Now you can have the health benefits of a spa in your own home so its no longer necessary to travel to a resort.
